Minecraft Steve To Become A Playable Character In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The most popular character from the best-selling video game of all-time is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Steve from Minecraft was announced during a Nintendo Direct on Thursday, alongside Alex, Zombie and Enderman. The direct showcased only a touch of gameplay involving Steve, as well as the Minecraft stage that has several different layouts.

Steve from Minecraft being a playable character was a recurring meme inside the Smash community, although it was never outside the realm of possibility; the popularity of Minecraft can’t be ignored, and the blank-slate nature of the character means that his moveset can be full of diverse moves.

If Nintendo can make Piranha Plant a compelling character to use, then the tools available with Steve and company will make for one of the more dynamic DLC characters in Ultimate.

Recent DLC announcements have gotten either lukewarm reception (in the case of Min Min) to downright hostile (in the case of Byleth.) Steve from Minecraft will undoubtedly be one of the most hype character reveals in Smash history, alongside the likes of Cloud from Final Fantasy VII and Banjo and Kazooie.

If you’re curious as to how Steve will play, there will be a more in-depth showcase of his moveset on October 3rd at 10:30 AM ET on the official Nintendo channel. It is expected that Steve’s release date will be announced at this time as well.
