A Classic Super Mario Bros. Level Has Been Remade In The Worst Possible Way

Have you ever wanted to see a piece of your childhood dipped into the fires of Hell?

Super Mario Maker 2 is one way of making that happen. Released on June 28th, 2019, the game allows players all over the world to create their own Mario levels, and then submit them online for others to try out.

At its best? People can come up with some amazing, unique levels that push the platforming aspect of Mario. There’s also no shortage of puzzle-style levels, where every move can either make or break your chances of getting to the flagpole. Some have very specific instructions, such as no jumping or sliding backwards for the level to be completed. There’s also no shortage of music courses, where you can hear anything from video game compositions to mainstream pop hits.

At its worst? You can find levels unnecessarily packed with enemies and dangerous obstacles, where the whole point is to find a tiny hole amidst the chaos to avoid dying instantly. Other courses require such a trial-and-error grind to them that it’s easy to lose interest in the challenge.

And then, there’s this remake of the first level of Super Mario Bros.

Watch as the memories of your youth are lit ablaze.

If you look closely, you’ll notice that the course has been recreated almost perfectly! Go all the way through and you’ll see that familiar training ground, where us Mario players learned our hops. However, you’ll notice sooner that there’s something…different about the first level this time around.

YTSunny, the YouTuber who created this monstrosity for reasons only known to the demons down below, has added an overwhelming amount of fire bars that require perfect movement and awareness to maneuver around. At first it seems daunting, but surely you can just wait, figure out the patterns, and then it’s off the races, right?

Not at all. We don’t get handouts around here.

Sunny also set the timer to 50 seconds, and judging by the video, you need to make the most out of every last one. It will require tons of practice and countless deaths to learn the patterns and inch your way closer to the goal. Is it worth it? That’s entirely up to you.

There is definitely something endearing about how terribly awful this 1-1 remake is. It’s absurdity to the point of hilarity, and one thing is for sure: if you can somehow grind through this level, you almost certainly have the patience of a world-class speedrunner.

The ID for the course is YXL-D4C-TQF. Give this level a shot, and then take a few shots to drown your sorrows.
