A Nice Surprise For The 25th Anniversary Of GoldenEye 007

Let’s face it: GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64 is one of the all-time great games, but time has not necessarily been kind to the 1997 classic, and…well…those N64 controllers were certainly not the most comfortable thing to use. For years, nostalgic gamers have yearned for a proper remake of GoldenEye, but efforts such as GoldenEye: Reloaded seem to be more in line with Call of Duty players rather than the N64 aficionados.

GoldenEye: Source has done an outstanding job of bringing that multiplayer feel of the classic game into a more modern setting, and the fact that it’s free to play doesn’t hurt either. However, Goldene: Source only deals with the multiplayer component of the game; and there is still a lot of players who pine for an updated feel to the single-player mode.

Well, if an official remake isn’t on the way, then it looks like someone has to step up. And that’s exactly what’s happened with GoldenEye 25.

    GoldenEye 25

GoldenEye 25 is an ambitious mission to fully recreate GoldenEye 007 in Unreal Engine 4 by the 25th anniversary of GoldenEye 007’s release in August 2022. Unlike GoldenEye: Source, GoldenEye 25 will look to provide the complete single-player experience all in an updated engine. A trailer showcasing the updated Silo mission from the original game has been released to give people a taste of what’s to come:

The graphics are looking much cleaner than the polygon-heavy N64 version, but there’s still the original sound effects to help maintain that old school feeling. As per the video’s description, the music in the game won’t be simple updated versions of songs from the original game; rather, it will feature tracks that are more in line with the movie GoldenEye, to provide a more immersive experience for players.

The game will be exclusively for PC when it’s released. You can follow their Twitter page for updates. It’s still a ways away, but it’s sure to be worth it!
