It is the era of quality fan remakes. GoldenEye 007 has a full multiplayer remake in GoldenEye: Source, as well as a story mode remake on the way with GoldenEye 25, and A Link to the Past has been cleverly recreated using the Dragon Quest Builders II engine.
But with the official Nintendo remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening being a smash hit, some creative minds are jumping on the hype wagon and recreating another Zelda classic in the same style as the new Link’s Awakening; and the end result is truly incredible.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past HD
BlobVanDam, who has created such genius videos such as the Secret Warp Song, has created an “HD” remake of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. This fan-made game looks like the real deal, with clean visuals, musical rearrangements, and even some voice acting added to boot. The game is very similar visually to the new Link’s Awakening, and has fans itching for a full version of this remake…which almost definitely won’t happen, as Nintendo is quite aggressive at shutting these sort of projects down.
There are some slight criticisms; Link’s face animations seem a little out of place with the rest of the art style (not to mention his open mouth smile immediately after his uncle dies…) but for the most part, this fan remake goes above and beyond to really capture what a modern day version of A Link to the Past would feel like.
While there doesn’t appear to be any playable demo, the video alone is worth watching and marvelling at. Check it out below:
