Sony unveiled a ton of new details for the PlayStation 5 during a showcase on Wednesday that gave exciting updates on upcoming releases, as well console details such as release date and cost.
The PlayStation 5 will be released on November 12th in North America, and worldwide on November 19th. The Digital Edition will cost $399 USD and the Standard Edition (with a disc reader) will cost $499 USD.
One of the major titles announced for the PS5 was Final Fantasy XVI. A new original title in the Final Fantasy series, the game looks to build on the high octane combat system that Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy VII: Remake have helped to perfect. Final Fantasy XVI also seems to have a darker tone than previous Final Fantasy titles, an interesting turn for the classic JRPG series.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales was also showcased heavily, looking to push the limits as to what an action game can do on the new console. The graphics looked spectacular and the combat and action sequences looked next generation. After the success of Spider-Man on the PS4, this new title will certainly be a must-have for the PS5.
Resident Evil Village, or Resident Evil VIII was unveiled as the next installment in the classic horror series. The game looks to improve upon the highly successful Resident Evil 7. The graphics and jump-scares in the trailer will keep people on the edge until the game drops in 2021.
Demon’s Souls is also on the way, a full-scale remake of the 2009 PS3 classic. Bluepoint Games will be behind the PS5 remake, a studio well known for their high-quality remasters of the Uncharted series, the Metal Gear Solid series and Shadow of the Colossus, to name a few.
Perhaps the biggest reveal was a short teaser for God of War 5 (or “Ragnarok.“) Very little was shown, but the game will be released in 2021.
The console showed off how various PS4 games looked when captured on the PS5; high quality titles such as God of War, Uncharted 4, Final Fantasy XV, The Last Guardian and more looked even better on the new hardware. These games (and more) will be available for free download on launch for PS Plus members.
Other games shown included Hogwarts Legacy, Deathloop, Oddworld: Soulstorm, Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, Fight Nights at Freddy’s, Fortnite, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Still no word on when pre-orders will be available, but those details should come soon now that a release date has been announced.
