In a recent Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced more details about the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate title. Amongst the many gameplay details, they revealed three new characters. Two of them, Ken Masters from Street Fighter, and Incineroar from the Pokemon universe, were pretty well received, and even expected. The last character, however was…unique, to say the least:

Needless to say, Smash fans were not expecting a random Mario enemy to become a fully-fledged character. People took to Twitter to announce their shock, surprise, anger, disbelief, and of course, their best memes.

Anger Only, Thank

The hardcore fans who were expecting Banjo-Kazooie or Geno to get announced let their rage be known. WARNING: INTENSE LANGUAGE AHEAD:

Here Comes The #PlantGang

Others were more receptive to the new character, with a hashtag #PlantGang popping up shortly after the Direct, full of people eager to use the new character. It also led to them roasting the salty fanboys, as well as supplying hilarious and flat-out filthy memes.

The outrage against Piranha Plant could be starting a war…

This is filthy. I don’t know why I included it. I’m offended.

The plants are coming, the plants are coming!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate comes out on December 7th, and we can expect more memes, ranging from hilarious to heartbreaking, at that time. May the ones that involve drawings be burned forever…
