Super Mario 35th Anniversary To Bring New Titles And Remastered Classics

Mario fans rejoice; there are big things in the works for our favorite Italian plumber.

Video Games Chronicle has revealed through their sources that Nintendo has plans to release several major titles in the Mario franchise, all remastered. An event will be planned that coincides with the 35th anniversary of the release of Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1985.

According to VGC, most of the games in the Mario catalogue will find their way to the Nintendo Switch in celebration of the 35th anniversary. A follow up story by EuroGamer revealed that three confirmed remasters will be Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy.

It’s not just remasters that are on the way either; a Deluxe version of Super Mario 3D World is also in the works, with additional levels and content from the Wii U version of the game. The planned event will also touch on the Super Mario animated movie (which will hopefully do better than the 90’s film) and the Super Mario World theme park.

Perhaps the most exciting news is that a new Paper Mario game is being developed for the Nintendo Switch.

It’s been said that the announcement was originally supposed to happen at E3 in June before it was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, and that a digital event will likely take its place. Nintendo did not respond to VGC’s initial inquiry, stating it does not comment on rumor and speculation.

The news of this Mario announcement continues to add to the strength of video games in 2020; Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Half-Life: Alyx, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake are all happening in the first few months of the year, with The Last of Us 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 still to come.

To finish off the year, both the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be released during the holiday season, pending any further delays. Should this Mario 35th anniversary announcement happen soon, there will be no shortage of quality games for players to indulge in, regardless of the system they own.
