The Best Super Smash Bros. Melee Player Of All Time, Armada, Announces Retirement

Super Smash Bros. Melee Adam “Armada” Lindgren has announced his retirement from competing in 1v1 competitions.

In a YouTube video released on September 18th, 2018, Lindgren touched on reasons for his retirement, such as burnout and lack of motivation to compete at the top level, as well as a desire to improve the 2v2 meta of competitive Melee.

Lindgren is widely considered the greatest Super Smash Bros. Melee play of all time, being a two-time Evolution Championship series winner, as well as countless other tournaments over his 13-year career. Since he first started competing in North American tournaments back in 2009, he has never placed below 5th at any event. Even more impressively, between 2010 and 2018, Lindgren never lost a tournament set to any player ranked outside the top six in the world. Only players who solidified themselves as world-class ever had a shot at defeating him in a tournament.

Lindgren pioneered the metagame for his character, Peach – a character, while considered good, was also deemed unable to win a major tournament by herself. Lindgren smashed that myth by taking home multiple major tournaments using solely Peach. Later in his career, he began using Fox for specific matchups and players. This Peach/Fox combo allowed Lindgren to keep up his reign of dominance.

Lindgren still plans to compete in the doubles competitions that are present at major events and is interested in picking up match commentary as a way to still participate in events.
