Muppets, Vin Diesel, And Grimes: The Game Awards 2019

The Game Awards for 2019 have come and gone, and the evening was full of surprises.

We saw Grimes perform a new song that will appear in Cyberpunk 2077, The Muppets introduce the Games for Impact award with a hilarious skit, Reggie “My body is ready” Fils-Aime, and Vin Diesel make a cameo appearance to announce the game of the year…and tease a new Fast & Furious trailer?

Notable winners tonight included Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Best Fighting Game, Apex Legends for Best Multiplayer Game, and Devil May Cry 5 for Best Action Game. But the Game of the Year would go to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, beating out other big titles such as Death Stranding, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Outer Worlds.

In terms of upcoming game announcements, a new Ghost of Tsushima trailer dropped, as well short reveal trailers for Magic: The Gathering Arena and Ruined King: A League of Legends Story. On the console end of things, the new Xbox console called Xbox Series X was announced, although the details are still light. We also know that the PlayStation 5 will arrive around the holiday season in 2020, so the stage is set for some huge announcements when E3 rolls around.

There were some awkward moments with rough presentations and pacing, but The Game Awards overall were a success, and as more and more celebrities lend their star power to the event, it’s sure to continue to grow exponentially.
